The Thelonius Monk of Hip Hop- what!!!!!

Ok- so who is this claiming to be The Thelonius Monk of Hip Hop? Actually Chuck D of P.E said that- but we’re talking about Labtekwon and you know what- I can attest to it too!!!!

Lab has literally been in the lab creating the most modern and futuristic beats and lyrics anywhere by any means! Daring to be different– he can battle anyone with that.

I first caught wind of Lab when I was compiling an album compilation back in 1997 called ‘CONNECTED’. I’m not sure if I stumbled upon him via a fanzine like Insomniac or Rap Pages because we didn’t have the web, blogs or anything online at that point to peruse through- No CD Baby, No Amazon to speak of- in fact- not sure my email was even set up then:-)

Anyway- whoever it was – big thanks because I ended up putting him on ‘Connected’ and that track got some of the biggest response and critically acclaimed. The label was 3-2-1 Records which was a subsidiary to Indie Rock Label Zero Hour Records– anyway- that’s the past– now zoom in/fast foward and here we are—- Lab contacted me through Facebook– Don’t we love F.B- hey that’s my initials speaking of which– Oh I write this blog post as I listen to my girl Paola Jean’s new album ‘ Right On Time’ and it’s Rightly Good!

So back to Labtekwon shall we– He told me he has a new project dropping and would I look out! Well of course I will- he’s too talented and this project too hot for it to go unnoticed!

Hip Hop heads/lovers/supporters/industry biters/haters – represent!!! Act like you know– Get to know Labtekwon’s new joint ‘ Di Na Ko Degg’— This album is for your listening pleasure spanning the Black struggle, Art, Love and Spirtuality.
Clearly this album is not for everyone, but for those special people that truly seek Hip Hop culture in its purest form.

2008 is the 20 year anniversary of the Golden Age of Hip Hop and Di Na Ko Degg is Labtekwon’s Magnum Opus initiating the new Golden Age of Hip Hop culture.

Stay tuned for Labtekwon’s first book: “Hip Hop: Youngest Child of The Black Ancients” on African World Books
check the dates and come to a show near you.

Available on CD exclusively on Ankh Ba Records

Labtekwon is performing this Sunday at The Black Luv Festival in D.C- I will be there for that.

October 4th he’ll be celebrating his album release at The Knitting Factory- NYC.
