Give me Dukey Treats and I’m cool….

I went to Baltimore this past weekend to participate on a panel at The Baltimore Music Conference.  I woke up at  crack of dawn- took Amtrak all the way down there only to find out that it wasn’t happening.  The panels were canceled and everything seemed shaky so I saw a friend who was driving back to NY and I said- Yo – can I get a ride—-and thus I did…..I actually was looking forward to Baltimore catching up with some friends and then on to D.C Sunday for Black Luv Fest and seeing friends/colleagues there too- but to be honest- after that escapade– I didn’t feel like being too social.

So on way before leaving Baltimore- we stopped off at Whole Foods-  made me a delicious healthy salad – ate that and we were on our way.

Kevin said- oh that’s Kevin Harewood from Edclectic Entertainment- he said we need to make one pit stop!

We stopped at  Dimensions in Music– Really great record shop at 233 Park Avenue.   2 floors and tons of vinyl!!!   The guy who owns the shop is a retail legend and a character he is…. Larry Jeter..  I think I made his day:-)

He’s been in the biz for 34 years in retail– He must have some stories for real!

I’ve been yearning to hear the new George Duke ‘Dukey Treats’ so I bought it–  I have been a fan of George Duke for decades– I grew up to him and even tried emulating his style back in the day when I was playing piano.  If I only had 1/4 of the funk he has I would have been sick and adopted all kinds of synthesizers but instead chose to stick to acoustic piano–wise decision.

My fave collabs with Duke were with Stanley Clarke and of course Al Jarreau.. Mr. Duke is a living legend.  His extensive repertoire and production is mad deep.    This album is just as funky as his earlier stuff from the late 70′s if not funkier!   Parliament Funkadelic may have him been but doubtful.    George you are my hero!!  Actually both George’s but Duke George is who I’m talking about….

I finally made it home… Wanted to go to my usual haunt- Frank’s Lounge for the Nu-Soul Series that I usually host but Boy!  Was I wiped out….

I told you about Cool and the lady of cool soul–  Teedra Moses...A special artist and very talented….. She’s bringing her sass and sultry style to SOB’s – her second visit to this venue— and this time giving us a sneak peak of the 2nd album  ‘ The Young Lioness’.

Don’t sleep on this beautiful and gifted artist Teedra Moses…It might be the last time we see her in an intimate setting…

I will be there chilling- re-connecting with Ms. Tamia who manages Teedra and Teedra’s sister.  I enjoyed working with them when I was at TVT Records.
