It seems that gun violence is out of control….. When I heard about Jennifer Hudson’s tragic family shooting it made me really ill… A few weeks back my photographer friend Lori Bailey’s parents were tragically killed in a house breaking…. What is going on…Yes- it’s hectic hectic times- there’s a lot of uncertainty and we’re supposedly going into a deep dark recession but people- this is the time to stick together- stay strong, pick yourselves up and be committed to doing positive things…..
Although you don’t hear about Guns in the U.K- there’s just as much violence over there but it’s more knifing than anything…..Violence around the world seems to be constantly increasing…..
We can take action— We must….
Elida Zulu from Dirty Fuzz has started a club night in East London called Drop Yo Knife- Pick up a Guitar….She’s been creating quite a buzz and media acclaim for this achievement- and it’s working…..
We can do the same thing- come up with smart ideas to get people off the street and inspired or motivated to be good positive people who want to make a difference in their communities….

Let’s Talk About Guns!!!
Last night and this morning we have been hit by the revolting news that young award winning actress Jennifer Hudson’s mother and brother were killed in a Chicago home. Last night I looked at a New York Knicks basketball game and remembered that the brother of Knicks forward Quentin Richardson was shot dead in a Chicago street a few years ago. Last night’s New York area local news had a report of a string of deadly shootings that began in Newark, New Jersey at 2:30 in the afternoon. A 20 year old young man is dead, a 24 year old woman is dead and another young man is injured. Just to show that the gun deaths are not regulated to black neighborhoods I am looking at the movie “Money Train”. Robert Blake plays along Wesley Snipes, Woody Harrelson and Jennifer Lopez. You may remember that in 2001 Blake’s estranged wife Bonnie was killed outside a tony restaurant in North Hollywood, California. Blake was tried and acquitted in that case. The common thread in the aforementioned incidents is death via gunshots.
Gun support advocates often speak of the second amendment which protects the pre existing right to “keep and bear arms.” When the current Republican Vice Presidential candidate was nominated she was highly touted for being a long time card carrying member of the NRA. It was said that here is an intelligent woman who is a mother of five children but moose hunts with the best of them.
If sports hunting animals was all that guns were involved in I would not have a major issue with them. However from where I sit people are being hunted in all areas across our nation.

The gun supporters often say “guns don’t kill people, people kill people” That may be right but the odds of death are severely diminished when the “people that kill people” don’t have a gun in their hands. I am not a lawyer or a politician but I do know something is wrong with the proliferation of gun violence. I don’t profess to have all the answers. One thing I do know is that somewhere,somehow some answers have to be found.
