I just have to big up how hot and beautiful the other night at Joe’s Pub was. SOUND IN COLOR was a big success. The place was warm and fuzzy filled with positive beautiful vibes. Multicultural, young, old – all across the board with threads binding us together for the Love of Soul Music… We had incredible talent. Ms. Monica Blaire wowed audiences and brought the house down with her energy, incredibly powerful voice, amazing music and fabulous dance moves. She is no joke! Joe’s Pub was blown away by this new talent who gave her NY Debut. It won’t be before long that she’s back. The show kicked off lovely with Maya Azucena who if you’ve never seen host- does a remarkable job- In fact- she needs to do it more often. With her style, energy, charisma and entertaining quality- it’s quite a spectacle- she really got the crowd exciting and in suspense. We had giveaways that she was handing out from Miss Wit original and custom tee’s- lovely designs and great colors for the ladies–as well as facial beauty products from Boots and some the some CD’s.
The pace and setting for the show was perfect. Supper club style although by the time Monica rocked the stage- they weren’t in their seats! Kameron Corvet opened the set and played music from both his CD’s and of course my fave fave song which he shouted me out in the intro- ‘War Within’- I was pleasantly surprised. I swear you could hear a pin drop it was so quiet. Kameron had the audience mesmerized armed with just his acoustic guitar and magical voice. He’s got this sensual thing going on with his lyrics and stories. Woah! Many girls with their panties wet I’m sure. It seems to be consistent in his show. So….everyone was loving it.. Kameron had us eating out of palm of his hands. Now- the crowd was ready for what was about to hit the stage! Dynamic powerful force of energy – Monica Blaire!!!! Ok- can I just say- amazing, brilliant, incredible, fierce, majestic, bold, dynamite, exquisite, talented – a STAR!!! You just need to see her! I’m at a loss right here to even try and review the show! The above stated it all quite acurately!
The night ended with an artist all the way from Holland…Yes they have Soul in Holland- you kidding- there’s an amazing supportive soul scene there and some serious tastemakers and bookers and curators over there. In fact- the co-founder of Giant Step lives there now and is curating as well as working for fashion brands. His name is Postman. He’s world-renowned in Holland selling platinum and several albums out and now he’s in NY recording a new album….Rebel Soul is working with him. He rocked the crowd with his soul reggae/funky flavor and heads were digging it!
Oh can’t even remember all the heads that came through but got to shout out folks who flew in from Detroit- Detroit was repping big!! Drake Phifer Urban Organic, Toya Haskins -Project Producers, Wajeed who lives here but DTown all the way…… Have to big up Monica Blaire’s other members- the power trio – her, Daru Jones who is one of the illest drummers/beatmakers around and Maestro who produces a lot of the tracks- who played keyboard. Other heads who rolled through: Bruce Garfield, Nagisa, Kana, Barry Heyman, George Little John, Barry Cole, Les Clarke, Jeremy James, Mic Crenshaw, Ann-Marie, Abby, Peter Hadar, Detrell and Pam(ONUTSS), Kafele, Shayna Miller, Gordon Chambers, DJ Ohso Kool who’s doing his photography thing now, Madame Butterfly, Michele Bass(Next Aid) Rob Fields and the list goes on….Thanks to Domewrecka for the musical treats before and in between on the decks- to Ji-Lin for the photography- can’t wait to see the flics- and of course our lovely sponsors: Fusicology, ONUTSS, Rebel Soul and Thisisrealmusic.
What a night!
