So we’re counting down to the 51st Grammy’s. I have never attended this Awards show in my 18 or so years in this business. It sounds unbelievable or crazy but I always vowed I wouldn’t unless one of my artists was nominated. That I had to be directly involved in their career and not part of a big company. Here I am = run my own business and the artist nominated is unsigned/no real distribution and look how much we’ve achieved with a small and hard-working devoted team. That in itself is a major accomplishment. We’re talking about WAYNA.
Nominated in ‘Urban Alternative’ category. Fingers crossed. Wayna We Wan’Ya to WIN! There’s another artist I feel responsible for or partially since I worked with him for many years and both his debut and 2nd album of which the song is nominated- Anthony David. I would love greatly for him to take home the award for Best R&B duo performance…
So reasons to be excited:
1) It’s my FIRST
2) Possibility of Wayna winnning
3) Anthony David possibility of winning
4) Seeing Garth Trinidad and the Grammy Brunch that’s a benefit for Common’s foundation
5) Hanging with Asya (hopefully)
6) Seeing Alonzo Robinson of ASCAP
7) My Strictly Social/Nu-Soul crew and the Urban Alternative HANG SUITE MIXER
8) The Angel and Mystic- it’s been forever
9) The lovely Michele Caplinger(NARAS/Atlanta)- Will see her on the Red Carpet- It’s literally been 14 years!
10) Delia Rae!!! I better see her- She’s at Disney now but was a radio star back in the day
11) Roy Trakin- Hits Daily Double and Sonic Boomers- Love him
12) Cary Baker- publicist extraordinaire. Need to see him on his turf and not SXSW
13) Jazmine Vega- Grammy Styling Suite and publicist I’ve known and admired for years. I’m getting a hairdo/makeover…
14) Armand Tulumello- haven’t seen him since Anthony David days
15) Eating Roti with Marlon Regis
16) I’m staying in KoreaTown
16) To be honest- It’s everyone I know in Cali and my colleagues nationwide and all the nominees….I wish them all great luck!
