So – gearing up for SXSW. This will be my 18th or 19th year in attendance. Don’t know seem to have lost count. I remember being there several years ago when Urban wasn’t even factored into the programming. I’ve watched the growth over the years and the people who flock from around the world in Hip Hop and R&B/Electro to participate…Exciting!
I get in Tuesday and will meet up with Wayna and do the party stuff and meeting folks/introducing her to people. Wednesday is the big SXSW SOUL showcase….Wayna is performing on that along with other notables- Maya Azucena, Kendra Ross, Bavu Blake and others.
I’m also representing Miz Metro down there. She’s doing a tour of Texas with Yarah Bravo and MC Eyeris
Miz Metro along with Crosby curated a monster of an event called Hip Hop Howl Mixtape Showcase….So Thursday is the big Annual 3rd Urban Meet and Greet called Build... This party is always packed. It’s produced by Foundation Media, Spectre Music and The BRMG Group. Lots of great community active folks sponsoring the event including The Bloom Effect.
Can’t wait to check 88 Keys, 14KT and Amp Live.…Get there early….3PM-6PM- March 19th at Barcelona.
Friday, March 20th- 11am- I’m speaking on a panel called ‘Global Underground’ that my colleague Ben Herson is moderating….We’ll be addressing how artists get their message out and their music heard. They are not singing about girls and money, but about political strife, economic crises, and real life issues they face every day. Friday, March 20th…Explore this phenomenon and how it is creating social change. women of the Muslim hip-hop/spoken word duo Poetic Pilgrimage – Sukina Abdul Noor and Muneera Rashida. Fiona Bloom of the Bloom Effect, Mark LeVine, author of Heavy Metal Islam, and filmmaker Magee McIlvaine will offer their insight as well.

Friday afternoon- Miz Metro and Crosby have put together this amazing line up- Creme De La Creme of Hip Hop and Soul….25+ acts will be performing live. Hip Hop Howl Mixtape- will be running back to back mixtape style w/ Melo X blending and mixing on the decks. Everyone from Yarah Bravo, Eyeris, The Beatards, Fresh Daily, Peter Hadar, Miz Metro, Karina Nistal, Maya Azucena, Homeboy Sandman and others will be rocking….
It’s a must see event! Friday, March 20th…4:30PM-8PM at Lucky Lounge.
