THANKS

Got to love Dred Scott’s posts- so random, so fun- so entertaining!

two weeks ago i hosted the first annual rockwood music hall benefit for breast cancer.  some people thought that name was a little cumbersome so in the future we are going to call it cancerstock.  i learned a couple of things being the host.  one thing is, cancer jokes really bomb.  and that nobody thinks that making fun of janeane garafalo is that funny either.

i’d like to thank the performers who gave their time and music for this cause – rebecca pronsky, sasha dobson, leah siegel, carol lipnik, michael daves, jason darling, richard julian, the xylopholks, ben rubin and tony mason.  and i’d like to give a special shout out to carmen staaf who was in attendance the entire evening.  thanks again.  we raised $625.  not a whole lot of money, but it was the first year and money is tight for most people these days (thanks asshole bank fucks).  besides, i’m sure jerry lewis didn’t raise a gagillion bucks in his first year.
i’d also like to thank tommy and ken for letting use the rockwood for this event.
finally, we have decided where we are going to donate the money.  it’s called the creative center and below is their mission statement from their website The Creative Center.

The Creative Center” is a community of artists, cancer patients and survivors, trustees, donors, and friends who are dedicated to bringing creative arts to people living with cancer. Through offering free-of-charge workshopsin our office and workshop space at 273
Bowery (corner of Houston and Bowery in the University Settlement building) and through a bedside art program in hospitals and hospices throughout the New York area, The Creative Center brings the world of art to more than 15,000 participants each year. Exhibits, both in the Creative Center Gallery and in venues throughout the country, feature the work of both professional and non-professional artists offering proof of the depth and diversity of the individual artistic expression of cancer patients who are often viewed as representatives of their disease rather than unique individuals.”
