Its another week for the Juice and although its fall and Halloween probably where you are reading this, its still 90 degrees and beach weather for us. If only I had the time to take advantage of this!
This week I really want to tell you about my soul sista from the Middle East, MC Karolina.
She’s our own little Erykah Badu, with a voice of soul that is sure to stop you in your tracks. You may recognize her voice from recent collaborations with Kutiman and Soulico tracks. Karolina and her band of talented musicians called Funset, released their album Ragga Pumpkin in 2000, which was a huge success. Her side project as part of the female threesome acoustic group, HaBanot Nechama also saw major success nationally as well as internationally. She’s even played with the Black Eyed Peas, Lauryn Hill, and even Erykah Badu during their performances in Israel.
But its not just Israel who loves Karolina! Her career reached an international level when a track from her last album was licensed to Jazzanova’s German label compilation and also contributed to several international Funk, Soul and electronic releases. One of these tracks was a collaboration with Kutiman as well and was reviewed by Fader Magazine’s music editors who couldn’t get enough.
Now is the time for her first true solo album entitled, What Do I Do Now? to be released in December. Not only is Karolina a major talent, but her producers too. She chose Sabbo of Soulico as well as Kutiman, the creator of You Tube album success, Thru You. (Which if you don’t know, then now its crucial to check it out!). All this combined brings an album that is musically rich with diverse styles of music including rock, groove, funk, soul and more.
