Border run, island sun & some Nyc fun

Our new place is beautiful. We couldn’t be more excited to have a kitchen again. Our first night we invited over our English friends Tom and Hannah. A trip to a western grocery store proved rather costly, and will be a very rare occurrence. However, knowing the beef your buying has not been sitting in the market all day, while a lady swats the flys away with a plastic bag at the end of a stick is priceless. It was truly amazing seeing things like A1 sauce and Apple Jacks. After only 1 month, I can’t help but miss the things I consume on a regualr basis in America. Prices for such raritys are extrodanaire, the worst being Häagen-Dazs ice cream costing a whopping $18 for a pint.

Learning to turn the gas on and off after each usage of the 2 burner, less then American stove top, will take some getting used to. I made rice without a rice cooker and used my wok to stir up a delicate mixture of thinly sliced chilis, onions and fresh garlic, adding curry powder before and after the beef. Beef Kima over rice was served with some sauteed green beans. We settled in our new flat with a homecooked meal and a bottle of red wine. Tom and Hannah also brought us a housewarming card along with the wine.

We spent the week learning our new surroundings and figuring out how to get simple things, like water, internet and a gym membership. Simple tasks at home, full day projects here. As with everything in Cambodia. I’ve learned things take time, LOTS OF TIME. Everything is a giant process and nothing is as simple as the nod of the head thats given when you make a request.

Friday came and we hopped on a 7am bus to Koh Chang, Thailand, to renew both our visas and our bodies. The adventure here had other plans then we prepared for, it all started with a “BAD” ice coffee (common travel issue). The rest of the LONG trip was painful and embarrassing with a eclectic range of bathroom site seeing. See video below for my story, told today while I hung out on the beach and in my bungalow.

Today, I also released this video from Alphabutter listening party of BS freetyling while Kid Lucky and Grey Matter beatboxing.

I thought I’d take a second to let you know that on February 16, 2010, Jesse Abraham will be releasing a free, downloadable mixtape entitled “XS”. The mixtape features the single “So Whatcha Feelin” featuring Jenny Hartman, as well as tracks produced by KO Beatz, Spills, J57 and others, and features such collaborators as YC The Cynic, Premonition and Pete Colon. Acting as a follow-up to the eminent “Alphabutter” album he released in January with MC/Producer extraordinaire Spills, “XS” will be Jesse Abraham’s first solo release. Catch Jesse Abraham performing live at The Bowery Poetry Club on 2/19 in Initiative Radio with Angela McKenzie’s Salute to Ralph McDaniels, alongside such acts as Homeboy Sandman, Hasan Salam, Eric Sosa and more.
