wassup all! welcome back to another week of “Just A Girl…in this Digital World”
this week we are chatting with Miss Shani of Stilettos and Sounds, an independent PR and Events firm operating out of NYC. In 2005 Miss Shani combined her love of fashion and music with her knowledge of the inner workings of arts and entertainment, embarking upon the crafting of Stilettos & Sounds, LLC. Specializing in representation and consulting services for various talents and businesses throughout the arts and entertainment industry, she has fused her personality, interpersonal skills and work ethic to create a brand that provides Stylishly Loud Events, PR, & Marketing.

Being a mom and entrepreneur, Miss Shani is leaving her mark through Stilettos & Sounds, LLC and her belief that the world and the future can be a brighter, better and Stylishly Loud place to be.
seeing as how she is helping to guide the careers of artists as well setting standards for how those artists interact with the world, both on and offline, she answered a few questions for “Just A Girl…”
me: since you work with a lot of artists, what suggestions would you make to artists trying to step up their online game?
Miss Shani: The first thing that artist should know is that everything is not JUST online. Image appearance, and guess what your actual music and stage performance are always thing that need to be looked at. They should make sure that their whole team understand new media, and how to reach their target market.
me: do you feel it is absolutely necessary for an artist to have an online presence in 2010?
Miss Shani: I do feel like it is absolutely necessary for artist to have an online presence in 2010, but I also feel from a PR standpoint that it is also important to have a balance between a traditional public relations campaign and new media exposure.
me: what sites have you found are most valuable and help you to increase your productivity?
Miss Shani: Definitely, twitter and LinkedIN are great. From a music standpoint Reverbnation and SonicBids are important to be featured on as well.
me: do you have a personal fave site? and a business fave?
Miss Shani: I honestly do not have one personal favorite site because I like random things but some of my favorite blog sites are ThatsHipHop.com, HipHopDX, Allhiphop.com, allthatsfab, str8outtanyc.com, Kittybradshaw.com, theminscope.com, etc…
me: without divulging your secrets..lol, what are some of the tools you use? i.e. Google Buzz (which we know I no like), twitter, Google Alerts, etc..
Miss Shani: Most sites that I use are twitter and a lot of their applications. One basic standard that every publicist should have is to set up Google Alerts for each client. Make sure to set it up properly, and learn how to know who is looking at your clients websites and why.
and speaking of clients, one of Stilettos and Sounds clients happens to be clothing line Stall&Dean and shouts to them because after over 100 years of dressing guys in athletic wear, they have FINALLY branched out to give us ladies some options to support our fave teams also!
and Miss Shani offers sage advice to be taken seriously and applied for optimum results. werd. because basically life exists offline and online and the key is to use both to your advantage. I’m a huge twitter addict, I admit it, but it’s with the knowledge that it’s not the be all and end all of interaction with fans and other artists. it’s another tool. and I am addicted to it partially because I find interesting articles and information on there. most of which if used properly will be beneficial to an artist such as myself that are independent and always looking for ideas and tools to maximize impact. such as this one from Social Media Examiner with “13 Ways To Move Your Facebook Fans to Action”. I like some of these ideas, some I’ve tried already, some I haven’t but this is part of why sites like twitter can become so valuable to artists and independent entrepreneurs!
so that concludes this week’s “Just A Girl…in this Digital World”, hope you’ll stop back through next week for more info and tips!
