Hope you weren’t feeling abandoned last week, Juicers. I needed a few days to escape the hustle and bustle of Tel Aviv by getting out of town (and out of the country) to Egypt for a few days. There is nothing like time on the red sea with the bedouins of Sinai laying out in the sun, playing backgammon, and eating to your heart’s content.
And speaking of hearts, yesterday was the Israeli holiday of love! Because here in Israel, I guess Valentine’s Day isn’t enough! Now we need two days a year to remind all of the single people what we are missing out on! I kid…mostly.
On a lighter note, yet still on the subject of hearts, MC Zulu is coming to Israel in mid August to play a show and shoot the video for “Queen of Hearts” with Soulico! For those of you who were at SXSW and got to see Zulu and Soulico perform together, you know how great that track is.
They are also going to play together while in Tel Aviv to celebrate Soulico’s 10th yer celebration!
There’s another two dudes that seem to have promise in the music scene, Turntable Valley. These are two guys from Ramat Gan, Israel. They go by the names Golden and Seek and are two producers doing their thing. Their beats are really fresh and I see interesting things happening for them in the future. Here’s a promo video for their new album. Not so skilled in the video editing, but you get an idea of their dope beats!
Last but not least, in the hip hop game here in Tel Aviv is the Other Side. I’m kind of embaressed to say that before listening to their new song I had never heard of them before!
Their newest project, entitled Audi Alteram Partem, means to “listen to the other side”. They explain that this is the fundamental principle in any court which means: listen to the other side of the story before you judge. They recorded it about three years ago, but for personal reasons they left the project took a break. A few months ago, the recordings somehow resurfaced and they realized that they needed to do something with it and release it to the public.
