2008 is almost over! And Miz Metro Mondayz is a whole year old! So to celebrate 2008 and my weekly fly blog- I thought I’d do a little review of my favorite posts from 2008, so study up- and stay fresh!

Best Mixtape: “A-NY Minute” Hip Hop HOWL!

This was by far one of the one scene uniting Mixtapes out in ‘08- and I’m not just being partial because I co-presented and helped hand pick the artists….but seriously I mean the line up on this mixtape is CRAZY! Best Live Show: The Beatards live @ Rehab

These boys know how to put on one hell of a live show, and there was something special in the air the night I saw them at Rehab this summer, because they were on fire. Entertaining as all hell- and tight as can be. Moving through dance moves, DJ O on the bass- and serious stage crafting by the lead M.C’s, taking a break from throwing Mixtape Riot every month did these boys some good-they really took their live show to the next level. It’s official, this girl is amazing. I’ve been ranting and raving about her for over a year, in which time she’s signed a major deal, toured with MGMT, opened for Chuck Berry and just got nominated for a Brit Award ( which is just the tip of the iceburg) Check her out if you haven’t yet, don’t live under a rock. she’s the real thing.

Crosby has been featured on Miz Metro Mondayz various times, for his various amazing talents. His surrealist clocks, ibook made videos ( which are so dope its scary), clothing company, various shows, Hip Hop HOWL! (co-presenter) and most recently for his video which he is a featured M.C in “Get Loose”, that has been getting heavy rotation on all the biggest hip hop blogs. Watch out for the lowest Mayor of the Lower East Side, born and raised-he’s no joke.

• I’m so over the auto-tone voice encoder, every rapper wants to be a singer PLEASE! ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! It hurts my ears!
• Obama is president, wow.
• The 10 Freshman got a lot of hype to live up to- but I have no doubt that Mickey Facts is going to knock it out the park, he is polished, focused and ready to rock-expect big big things from this dude in 2009
• Britney it’s not your fault your so wacked, we love you anyways.
• Lykke Lee- I love you, a little bit…
• Santogold was undeniably one of the hottest things to happen to the year 2008, so proud and happy for you Santi- your the best.

On a winter note-I hope everyone is being careful on the icey sidewalks out there, I almost busted my ass this morning! SOOOO cold out! WTF- I had to pull out my actual warm jacket, that is completely un-fashionably LL Bean, but its warm- Just bought some silver spray paint, and am going to miz metro it up, will write “Stay Warm” on the back. When you sing, and your voice is your instrument- you cannot play around, you must stay warm and cannot get sick- so that’s my long excuse for my ugly baby blue to the floor old grandma jacket, you may have seen me rocking as of late.

For the record I truly did believe in Santa till I was 13, or I just tried to get double the gifts for as long as I could-i told myself i believed, but i just wanted more gifts looking back. Kids. Do we ever grow up? I hope not!

Ahhh! My head is spinning, so busy with finals right now!! On top of an amazing 12 hour session with my 7 piece band, “The Makebelieves” at the beautiful live recording studio East Side Sound with 4 time Grammy winning engineer Marc Urselli, this past Saturday. I’m so excited!! We have such amazing material to work from to comp this album, we’ve been rehearsing for the past 6 months for this recording, and were able to lay down 9 songs in one day- the live energy was amazing-this was my dream come true. I’m blessed with an amazing band, and let me tell you its a lot of f-ing work to organize constant rehearsals and shows with a 7 piece band! But it’s all worth it at the end of the day. I’ve learned so much this past year leading my own band, and I have so much respect for musicians and the life they bring to a project. “Manhattan Makebelieve” the album will be coming this spring!! I’m going to LA in January to finish the vocals with my producer Ray Cervenka. It’s been 5 years in the making-I can’t even begin to tell you how excited I am to get this music out there!!!!

Who just won a Brit award!! The critics choice!! go Flo!! I discovered her on an MTV Europe contest keep a look out thing when I went to go vote for my girl Santi (Santogold) when she first dropped last year, and I got hooked on Florence and been following her ever since. We’ve been intouch via myspace, and she’s the best- so freaking talented and creative-she just signed her major deal and she’s on her way to the top!!!

HELLOOOOO! Waaa one of those cold NY winter weeks, so many shows, so many beautiful performers- ah I love what I do!! The show at R-Bar on Thursday was FIRE!!! Thank you to everyone who came out and supported, it was an intimate chill wonderful time. True Theory killed it, U.R.I tore it up, Dannis Anderson brought us to church at the end of the night- all the while King Cros kept order in the court, with his witty hosting. Peep the photo’s below, I’ll have video from my set up soon- in the mean time check out the video clips from “U.R.I” (Under the Rasta Influence) they are one of the hottest rising Reggae bands in NY right now, and the band leader/front man Donovan just turned 21! He is no joke, I helped them get on Fox 5’s Fearless T.V show- which should be airing soon, so keep a look out!!

Wow. I’m still full. I ate soooo much on Thanksgiving, felt good- till it hurt, lol unbuttoned the jeans. I got to watch a lot of T.V and just relax, which was nice. And the fam of course, I have the best little brother and sisters, kids keep you honest. Infact my 13 year old sister tips me off on what’s hot all the time, she’s my filter, I always ask her what she thinks. Lord knows, she doesn’t mind telling me : P

We both agree that Crosby feature on Fokis’s “Get Loose” track from his “Walk Through Myspace Project” is DOPE!! Sporting his new trademark Crown and sun glasses, an original character- with the lyrical craft to match the crown. This song “Get Loose” has been getting love from all the biggest Hip Hop blogs, OnSmash, HipHopGame, and many others- the video just dropped. Check it out:

Hello Hello! What an intense week I’ve had! 4 shows, a radio guest appearance, and not stop running around- bundle up because when the sun goes down, it’s brick city out there! I had a lovely week, in my element for sure-started up with a wonderful all girls showcase @ Purchase College, followed by a yummy show at Prohibition on Wednesday, a rocking set on Saturday @ Southpaw- and what a better way to wind down from a fabulous week then to kick it with Rephstar and Patty Dukes on their brand new radio show Circa *95 on www.urbanlatinoradio.com!!! Crosby and I were one of the first guests on their debut show, and we all had an amazing time- really dope loft space in dumbo where they broadcast live, it was a blast. Being that the show is “Circa *95″ we all strolled down memory lane, with our 90’s stories- and the show “Dinosours” came up-man did I used to love that show when I was a kid!

LA Gear light up sneakers, easy bake ovens,Ghost Busters, Fresh Prince of Bell Air, Family Matters, ah we talked so much 90’s shit, had me feeling 10 years old again. We also got to perform live on the air which was fun, and had a dope cipher.

Hello!! I hope everyone had a marvelous week! I relaxed with the fam this weekend, where my Dad now resides in Riverdale, in the Bronx. Riverdale is a very mellow homey area, very Irish and Jewish- and filled with elderly people and families. Needless to say when I went on an olives/breadcrumb run for my Dad ( who is quite the cook) upon leaving Key Food I nearly pissed my self laughing to see:

“Bling Teeth” Collect All 10 Grills!! ( I snapped this photo with my iphone) Is this kid scary looking or what?? Bling Teeth- a quarter toy??? This is soooo random for Riverdale, it has to be one of the oddest things I’ve come across in a while!! So I had to share.

Anyways I am also very excited to share with you one of my absolute favorite artists out there, Florence and the Machine’s new video “Dog Days” directed by Tom Beard. I’ve been following Florence for a while now, corresponding with her a bit via myspace ( we both eat our spinach )- this girl is poised for stardom- for her sheer undeniable raw talent. I think she just got signed to Island, but I’m not sure- you’ll be hearing about her in a big way soon either way. She’s getting over 8,000 listens a day on her myspace and just came off tour with MGMT and opened for Chuck Berry this summer. I don’t know if the world is ready for Flo- but ready or not here she comes!


I was lucky enough to be present at her SXSW performance last March-it was my #1 pick of the week- and BBC and NME felt the same! She jumped into a waterfall pool in the middle of her set then hid under the stage- classic.

So what a week it’s been!! The electricity that ran through this country, and world- when Obama won is a feeling that I will never forget, people everywhere ran on to the streets rejoicing, and on my college campus-everyone was dancing till the wee hours-because what can we do? In the words of Marvin Gay “Keep on Dancing” ( which was code for don’t stop the fight for change ). In case you missed it!! Here is footage from Obama’s victory speech:

And one of the highlights of election day seemed to be the hologram technology they were using in the news room, which was kind of hilarious to see. Here this womans describes how it works.

To make the week even specialer, I had a wonderful Obama Victory show at the Lazy Lounge, where we got down and dirty, some amazing musicians sat it- it was a great night!
