Hello fall! I hope you had a great labor day weekend! I know I did! Hit to beach 3 days in a row & managed to finally get a little color (my half Irish skin usually burns instead of tans so this is truly exciting for me)! I got to sing a duet with the Mayor of Jersey City last night (long story) at my Grandmas BBQ at the shore & have managed to actually relax for the first time in a long time. In the spirit of labor day Oveous’s new single “Goodbye Summer, Hello Fall” couldn’t be more appropriate so I had to share it with you all!

Not to mention that I will be on one of Oveous’s upcoming single releases for the song we wrote together called “MAYBE”, and you’ll be seeing that all over the place so you should start to become familiar! : )
If you don’t already know about Oveous here’s a quick breakdown:
Oveous is a recording artist who tricked everyone into believing he was only a poet. He grew up in the Bronx and Washington Heights exposed to the richness of jazz, soul, hip hop, and latin music. An honorary member of the world-famous Nuyorican Poets Cafe, Oveous shares his own brand of “rap & spokenword”. He became a National Poetry slam finalist three years in a row, is a multiple time winner at the Apollo Theater, has performed on the hit series HBO Def Poetry, and has recorded music with grammy award winner Louie Vega. Currently, you can download Oveous’ albums (“Future Intentions” & “The Iambic Moment”) at: oveous.bandcamp.com
This is a well done music video, love the Pulp Fiction theme:

And though he tried to trick you into thinking he was only a poet, he really is an amazing poet:

You can catch him Live this Thursday in NYC!

On a completely different note, I wanted to share with you The 22 Immutable Laws of Marketing.
My media partner and close friend Matthew Charof (who shot and edited all the videos from Miz Metro: UNLIMITED up on mizmetro.com) asked me a very interesting question last night: “Do you think it is better to do something first or do it the best?” and then shared this with me:
The 22 Immutable Laws of Marketing, by Ries & Trout
1. It is better to be first than it is to be better.
2. If you can’t be first in a category, set up a new category you can be first in.
3. It is better to be first in the mind than to be first in the marketplace.
4. Marketing is not a battle of products, it’s a battle of perceptions.
5. The most powerful concept in marketing is owning a word in the prospect’s mind.
6. Two companies cannot own the same word in the prospect’s mind.
7. The strategy to use depends on which rung you occupy on the ladder.
8. In the long run, every market becomes a two horse race.
9. If you are shooting for second place, your strategy is determined by the leader.
10. Over time, a category will divide and become two or more categories.
11. Marketing effects take place over an extended period of time.
12. There is an irresistible pressure to extend the equity of the brand.
13. You have to give up something to get something.
14. For every attribute, there is an opposite, effective attribute.
15. When you admit a negative, the prospect will give you a positive.
16. In each situation, only one move will produce substantial results.
17. Unless you write your competitor’s plans, you can’t predict the future.
18. Success often leads to arrogance, and arrogance to failure.
19. Failure is to be expected and accepted.
20. The situation is often the opposite of the way it appears in the press.
21. Successful programs are not built on fads, they’re built on trends.
22. Without adequate funding, an idea won’t get off the ground.
Which lead to a very interesting conversation that had a deep impact on me, so I’m sharing it with you as food for thought. What does it mean to be focused in one’s life? To have a clear sense of direction and purpose? In New York City there is such high energy so many people trying to start projects and get their friends to help it’s easy to get caught up in a lot of hot air. We have to stand up and be focused on what we want to accomplish. It’s okay to say no. Be honest with your friends if they can’t take it maybe you shouldn’t be working with them. Life is short, do what you love and be focused. Hard learned Metro advice for city living.

Did you know their is absolutely NO NEED to buy trash bags, I mean think about it. Buy something to throw something away in, the whole concept to me is pointless. So do your pockets a favor and just reuse your grocery bags. You dont need a GIANT trash can in your kitchen either, what’s the point? To let a weeks worth of food and “garbage” pile up just to drip on the floor when you go to take it out. No! So no garbage pale or bags are needed in life.
As I type, Otis Clapp, Spills, Nakia, Cav,Warren, Backwordz & J Monopoly occupy headquarters, we are recording a track over a Spills beat named “Beast” and its a beautiful thing.
